
CHANDIGARH: The Secretary of Tourism of Government of India Sujit Banerjee said that in view of Commonwealth Games the Union Government has decided to give tax holiday for five years to the hotels completing before 31st March this year. This exemption would be given to 2, 3 and 4 Star hotels and not to the 5 Star hotels.
Banerjee was interacting with the media persons at the inaugural ceremony of Optus Sarovar Premier Hotel in Sector 29 of Gurgaon last evening. He said that now 8 months were remaining in the commencement of Commonwealth Games. About One lakh additional tourists were expected to arrive in India during the Games. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e90zCsDz51U For these tourists about 40 thousand hotel rooms were required. Presently there were about 10 thousand hotel rooms in and around Delhi.
He said that in the remaining 30 thousand hotel rooms, Haryana was making a commendable contribution of 6700 rooms. At this, the Gurgaon Deputy Commissioner Rajender Kataria, who is also the nodal officer for Tourism related projects and beautification of roads in districts of Haryana falling in NCR, assured the Tourism Secretary to provide about 7000 rooms. Hearing this assurance, Mr Banerjee said ‘Haryana is number one’.
He said that DDA was going to provide 2300 rooms and UP would provide 2000 rooms. In addition to these, about 11 thousand hotel rooms would be available from guest houses at Paharganj and Karol Bagh of Delhi. About 3000 rooms would be available from bed and breakfast scheme in Delhi and Haryana. He said that about 5000 rooms would be made available from the flats being developed by DDA at Vasant Kunj. The Indian Tourism Development Corporation would take these flats from DDA before auction and make them 3 star quality rooms. Even after this if more rooms were required, the shortage would be met out from the two tentage sites-Suraj kund and Dundhahera in Haryana. At these two places tents with 5 star facilities would be erected in five – five acres of land.
Banerjee said that during the Commonwealth Games the tourist vehicles would have facility of seamless travel in the golden triangle area which includes Dehli, Haryana, UP and Rajasthan. The tourists vehicles would be able to pay all the toll taxes in Delhi itself, after which they would be given a sticker with hologram of Ministry of Tourism. This would enable them to travel without any hindrance. Replying to a question, he said that separate task forces have been constituted for traffic, security and beautification. He said that he would soon be having a review of preparations at Agra and Jaipur also.
